AR@ Auction

AR@ hosted the GREEN HAND Award to celebrate artisans who already follow environmentally sustainable practices in their creative process, give them the recognition they deserve, and we have taken it a step further by introducing an auction gallery, where environmentally conscious buyers, compete to acquire one-of-a-kind pieces crafted with love and care for our planet.

The celebration is Happening!! at De Nijverheid, Utrecht, 3rd of June, at 7.30 pm.

AR@ is aiming to much more than awarding Remakers, we are looking to help eco conscious makers with other problems they face, such as material sourcing, so we will also have waste art material for auction, starting at a symbolic price of 5 Euros for each material, such as Wood, Glass, ..etc.

we will also have few handcrafted eco pieces, available for bidding in Favor of AR@, for those of you who want to support our mission, and own a valuable piece at the same time.

If you are at our auction, encourage those amazing makers by bidding on their pieces, because together, we can make a difference—one R at a time.

This is a wall object in the shape of a chrysant made of stained glass (tiffany)
I made this design out of my fascination with nature. I like to capture the organic and graceful lines of nature with a hard material like glass.
The material I use is rejected glass. this is glass that would otherwise be thrown away.
I make it based on the Tiffany technique. A craft that has been around for years.
It is eco-friendly because I work with a craft and do not use large machines. Furthermore, my material has been rejected and would otherwise end up in the trash bin.

This piece has a plastic base made out of a planter, bubble tea cup, and a couple water bottles. The wings are made of wooden utensils. Knives can be see intact at the wingtips, the rest is forks and spoons with the end broken off. Finally, the overlay is made with old scrap fabric. All these materials I collected overtime in my day to day life. Clay and paint are the only non-recycled materials.

Introducing our beautiful FreeStyle upcycling bag! Carefully crafted, the front features a refreshing combination of light tones, accented by lemon yellow stripes and accents of blue. Meanwhile, the back is captured by a deeper palette of white, blue and vibrant lemon yellow. Complemented with chic white short handles and a sleek gray lining, this bag is as stylish as it is durable. Plus, you’ll stay organized on the go with a handy pocket securely attached to the inside.
”I get the clothing from which the bags are made from friends and family. I like working this way because I have no control over the color, I never know what I will get, what colors, materials it will be. I cut the clothing into strips and then weave the outer material on a loom. I reinforce the resulting material with appropriate lining to obtain the correct strength. And from this prepared material I sew the bag. I try to use recycled accessories as much as possible. I use clips, straps, anything that can be reused.”

BLØM is an ecoprinting initiative that opposes the modern fashion industry by focussing on the use of natural dyes and pigments, such as bluewood and indigo. We print on organic fabrics, such as organic cotton, linnen and silk. Ecoprinting invites its makers into nature to pick leafs and flowers. During the process you’ll find out which leafs have a stronger expression, such as chestnut leafs, marigold and rose petals. This method provides a new purpose to culinary waste products, such as onions or cabbage. I find that even though I start with a composition, my work involves an element of surprise conform the Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a way of living with a focus on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay. As you fold the packages and leave them to steam for several hours, you are invited to let go of control. Sit back, relax, and get ready to unravel your surprise; a creative gift of nature and life.

I made two candle holders that form a set. I make all my pieces using glass, porcelain and ceramics that I buy at secondhand stores. Because I found a set of two dolls heads, arms and legs (see fotos) yesterday, I thought it would be fun to make a set of two - cult and to some people a bit creepy - candle holders with them. I have not used the arms and legs, but I am sure they will come in handy for another project.
I also make vases and lamps from secondhand materials - so I am always very dependent on what they have in store. The unexpected founds make it fun!

The painting symbolizes victory over the fears of war and entering the endless road. The wooden frame was brought from Ukraine and did not survive the difficult journey. As an artist, I couldn’t throw it away and used the broken frame in art recycling. A large wooden board lay outside the hotel in Monnickendam, where the Netherlands is hosting refugees. The picture was painted with acrylic on a found board. This is a woman who comes out of the fire. She is life and hope. The art is rather big and hard, It’s on the hotel balcony.

I found this chain dome metal lighting fixture that I think was hung at some point in its life but now was very much this kind of heavy, unloved thing in the corner of the Kringloop. It had split wires and was dusty and was in bad shape. But I had an idea, I wanted to bring it back to life as a lamp. So I cleaned it up, re-wired it with parts I found, found an old light bulb at home, and added these plastic plants which no one wanted. And now here is this really lovely, chain dome lamp that I love and happy to share with you guys. What’s cool is that it is this blank canvas that can keep being added to, I’m excited to see what it ends up becoming. “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.” P.S my girlfriend never liked it…

I like to go to thrift shops there I buy second hand ties and turn them into pillboxes (small round hats), bowties, birds and broches. I use ties because of the luxurious fabrics and exclusive image.
Depending on how much the fabric is damaged (stains or burnholes) I choose its final destination.
Here I am sending in a pillbox, which is made of a tie with a strap on it which came from a fabric sample book. The lining is pink silk with a braiding in raspberry which is sort of my trademark, and is not re-used but new. The body of the hat is self-made with new materials.

I tried to convey a unique blend of history and personal creativity. It begins with an old IKEA base, found at my new home by the previous tenant, I kept it as a piece that hold some history of the place but added a personal touch through a large rose painting in shades of pink with a gold touch. The pink hues, ranging from light to dark, to create a sense of movement and life. The branches extend from the side of the painting, drawn in black intertwined with green, adding a touch of contrast and depth.

Memory Bloom represents a journey through time, blending the past and present. The old painting represents a solid foundation, while the new rose represents growth and development. This contrast embodies the natural cycle of life, where old things bloom and renew themselves over time.

This painting embodies a unique value to me, It represents a blend of personal creativity and history.

Materials Used:
Primer, Plaster, paint and some leftover wood dust.
